There are many ways to help support the Gorgas House Museum. One way is through a monetary gift to the Gorgas House Gift Fund. The Gift Fund allows the Museum to further the mission through outreach and educational activities, improvements to the permanent exhibition, development of temporary exhibitions, and the purchase of new collection artifacts

Volunteering

Current volunteer opportunities: Special Events Volunteer– Assists with preparations for and activities at special events. This may include preparing announcements, setting up or taking down decorations, tables or chairs, serving refreshments, or monitoring the Museum’s use during events. Docent– Greets visitors and gives tours of the Museum. Docent Assistant– Assists tour guides with large group

Exhibitions

Permanent Exhibition The Gorgas House Museum has been renovated to its 1890′s condition; shortly after Josiah and Amelia Gorgas moved into the residence. The renovation process involved remodeling to the structure, electrical, plumbing, wood work, plaster, and furniture, to restore it to its original condition, with the exception to a few modern necessities. Collections

The Gorgas House Museum was occupied by the Gorgas family from 1879 -1953.  Within the following year, The Gorgas Memorial Board and the University of Alabama Board of Trustees petitioned the state legislature to have the building dedicated as a museum in memory of the Gorgas family. With such a quick succession to a Museum
