William Crawford Gorgas and the Panama Canal

William Crawford Gorgas and the Panama Canal, a new exhibit at The Gorgas House Museum, explores the construction of the Panama Canal detailing its history, challenges, and the lives of those who lived it. Included in it is William Crawford Gorgas, whose family name honors The Gorgas House Museum and whose work on the canal saved countless lives. Created by University of Alabama undergraduate, William Smith, a junior in the Department of History, the exhibit showcases historic objects and artifacts from UA Museums Department of Research and Collections, original research by Smith, and interactive digital videos. The exhibit opens on September 1st and will run throughout the Fall 2022 semester, ending on December 2.

Hours

The Gorgas House Museum is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm or by appointment.

Admission

General admission is $2.00.
